‘Murder of democracy’: Alliance slams ruling BJP
Chandigarh, January 19
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and Congress, which have formed an alliance under the INDIA bloc, today held a joint press conference to flay the BJP over the postponement of mayoral elections.
AAP city co-incharge Dr SS Ahluwalia and city Congress president HS Lucky addressed the media. Dr Ahluwalia alleged the BJP had murdered the democracy in the city. He said the elections were postponed as the BJP was fearing its defeat and knew if AAP and Congress came together, it would be out of power. “This is evident from the fact that the BJP was hell bent on pushing the elections from day one,” he alleged.
Lucky said January 18 would be known as a “black day” in the history of the city MC. He alleged even on the election day, the BJP tried to take away their councillor Jasbir Singh Bunty from the gates of the MC office with the help of the police. “Victory and defeat are part of democracy. The BJP should accept its defeat,” he said, requesting the UT Administrator to intervene and conduct the election in a fair manner.
