MP okays Rs 70 lakh for development works in Nurpur
The fund-starved Municipal Council (MC), Nurpur, comprising nine wards got a new lease of financial life when Kangra Lok Sabha MP Rajiv Bhardwaj announced Rs 70 lakh from his MP Local Area Development Scheme (MPLADS) for development works in the town during a felicitation ceremony organised by MC president Ashok Sharma last night.
The BJP had first time formed MC in the town by winning six out of nine wards during civic body elections in 2020.
Addressing a gathering, Bhardwaj said it was unfortunate that some government officials were trying to create hurdles in carrying out development works in the town ever since the Congress government had come in power. Advising such officials to mend their ways in larger public interest, Bhardwaj said that these officials would face the music in the meeting of District Development Coordination and Monitoring Committee.
Condemning those leaders of ruling Congress party, who are allegedly not allowing the BJP-supported Nurpur’s MC to work smoothly, Bhardwaj said they should desist from playing politics in the development works in Nurpur town. “The BJP-supported councillors have been elected by the residents of Nurpur town and creating obstacles by Congress leaders in smooth functioning of the elected civic body is against the spirit of democracy,” he stated.
On this occasion, local MLA Ranbir Singh Nikka alleged that the budget released by him from MLA local area development fund for the development works in Nurpur town and gram panchayats in Nurpur Assembly constituency was not being utilized due to political interference of Congress party leaders.
MC president Ashok Sharma welcomed Rajiv Bhardwaj and Ranbir Nikka.
