Excavation on a piece of land reserved for a parking lot at Tobba Baba Dhyan Singh Old Tractor Market has snowballed into a political issue ahead of the civic body elections.

Former Mayor and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) urban unit chief Sanjeev Sharma Bittu staged a protest today, along with party workers and shopkeepers, against the move of constructing shops at a place reserved for a multi-level parking facility.

Bittu stated that the influx of vehicles to the market without a proper parking facility was causing chaos in the city.

He added that the state government’s decision to sell the parking lot and construct shops may affect the business of the local shopkeepers and cause inconvenience for people.
