Mohali begins drive to axe dead trees

Swinging into action following the death of a schoolgirl in Chandigarh after a tree fell on students recently, the Mohali Municipal Corporation has formed teams and started cutting dead trees.
Municipal Commissioner Navjot Kaur and Deputy Mayor Kuljit Singh Bedi have instructed MC officials to plant saplings wherever dead trees were felled to maintain green cover.
Officers were instructed to remove dead trees in respective areas after which the teams of the municipal corporation on the basis of complaints in different areas started the exercise.
The commissioner said the officers had been instructed to inspect dead trees in different areas. She said action had been initiated immediately as the risk of falling trees remained high in the rainy season.
