In a bid to provide an informal platform to girls to express their wishes and aspirations, the International Day for Girl Child was observed on Friday by the District Administration in collaboration with Social Security, Woman and Child Department of Punjab.

ADC (D) Sonam Chaudhary, while addressing students from various schools in the area exhorted them to work hard to achieve their goals in life. She said any profession they opted for would seek long-term focus.

Director-Principal Dr B R Ambedkar Institute of Medical Science (AIMS), Mohali, Bhavneet Bharti, said nowadays males and females had equal opportunities. She advised girls to monitor their health and haemoglobin levels to maintain well being. Stressing on the importance of a balanced diet, she said girls must not opt for shortcuts in life to achieve their goal instead practice and exercise regularly without worrying about failures.

Dr Amrit Kaur Virk, from the Community Medicine Department of AIMS, gave tips on healthy lifestyles. She emphasized the importance of a nutritionally-rich diet. DEO (Secondary) Ginni Duggal, while shedding light on the importance of being a girl, said they had unlimited career opportunities to fulfill their dreams and for all this, education and self-confidence were important.

CDPO Gursimran Kaur compeered the programme, while District Programme Officer Gagandeep Singh distributed stationery kits to each the guests.

A helpdesk to promote ‘Beti Bachao Beti Padhao’ was also inaugurated at the ground floor of the District Administrative Complex by ADC (D) Sonam Chaudhary along with Dr Bhavneet Bharti in the presence of female students.

Assistant Commissioner Ankita Kansal shared tips with the students on how they could prepare for civil services.
