Modi announces arrival of new family member — a calf named 'Deepjyoti'

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday announced the arrival of a new family member — a calf named Deepjyoti in deference to a white mark on its forehead, which the Prime Minister said was a mark of light.

Posting images of the arrival of the calf, and another where he is seen sitting for Lord Ganesh puja with the calf in his lap, he said, "It is said in our scriptures — 'Gaav: Sarvasukha Prada' (the cow is an eternal giver of happiness). There has been an auspicious arrival of a new member in the Prime Minister House Family at Lok Kalyan Marg. In the Prime Minister's residence, our beloved mother cow has given birth to a calf, which has a symbol of light on its forehead. Hence, I have named it ‘Deepjyoti’."

Protection of cow is one of the top political and ideological commitments of the ruling BJP.

The images the Prime Minister posted right on the eve of Haryana elections in the midst of Ganesh Chaturthi carry both religious and political symbolism.
