MC elections: MLAs start paying attention to civic issues, hold meetings with officials
As the elections for the Municipal Corporation (MC) have been announced, the political leaders have started reaching out to public and paying attention towards the civic issues of the city, which otherwise are generally neglected, feel most of city residents.
MLAs and local party leaders are trying to built a connect with the people and the ruling party is on the spree to inaugurate new projects and also issuing instructions to Municipal Corporation regarding civic amenities and regular meetings are being held for the same.
On Thursday, Atam Nagar MLA Kulwant Singh Sidhu directed the civic body officials to ensure cleanliness and potable water supply to the residents across the constituency.
The officials were also directed to expedite the development works and ensure that there is no compromise with the quality of the development works.
Further, MLA Sidhu directed the officials concerned that the grievances submitted by the public should be resolved at the earliest. There should be no delay in taking up repair works if any complaint is submitted regarding contaminated water supply and permanent solution should be provided.
Similarly, for facilitating the public at large and for developing quality infrastructure across the constituency, Ludhiana North MLA Madan Lal Bagga conducted a meeting with the civic body officials at MC Zone A office on Friday.
During the meeting, strict instructions were issue to the officials concerned to B&R branch and O&M cell that no laxity would be tolerated in terms of development works and the officials should make every effort to expedite the development works.
MLA Bagga said he himself is monitoring the development works on a daily basis and the officials should also move in the field to ensuring that the development works are expedited and there is no compromise with the quality of works.
Taking steps to improve water supply infrastructure, Atam Nagar MLA Kulwant Singh Sidhu inaugurated the a tubewell near D10 park in Model House area of ward number 51 on Thursday. A 12.50 HP tubewell has been installed in the area at a cost of around Rs 5.5 lakh. MLA Madan Lal Bagga inaugurated the project to reconstruct the streets of Durgapuri, Haibowal this week. The project is being taken up at a cost of around Rs 49.60 lakh and concrete roads would be constructed under the project.
A Congress leader said inaugurating projects before elections would not help the Aam Aadmi Party. “People have come to know the reality of this party and delayed MC elections have actually become a blessing a disguise for other parties as people are now aware of the fact that this party is not going to do any good for them.
City resident, Amarpreet Kaur said she has seen a spurt in the political activity at the local level. “Politicians act only when they are required to. It should be the case for the entire term, not just when any elections are nearing,” she said.
Ravi Kumar, a resident of Durgapuri, said from the past many months, then work of construction of the roads in their area was pending and finally it has seen light of the day. “The MC elections have been announced and the ruling party wants to be in the good books of the people. This way or that way, our demand has been finally accepted,” he said.
MLA Ashok Prashar Pappi inaugurated a project to install tubewell in Dhandiya Mohalla in Ward Number 60 and also launched the project to lay water-sewer lines at the stretch of road from Dhokka Mohalla point till Madhopuri Puli.
