Over a month after being elected MLA from the Karnal Assembly segment, Jagmohan Anand, along with former Mayor Renu Bala Gupta and BJP acting district president Brij Gupta, held a meeting with officials from the Karnal Municipal Corporation (KMC) to review various ongoing projects. MC Commissioner Dr Vaishali Sharma, provided an update on the status of several ongoing works and progress of various schemes in the city.

Key topics discussed included projects announced by the Chief Minister, ongoing development efforts worth Rs10 crore such as sanitation, streetlights and fogging schedules. Anand directed officials to fulfil their responsibilities or face stringent action.

Anand and former Mayor Gupta raised concerns about the ongoing monkey and stray cattle issues and directed the officials to take necessary measures for addressing these problems. “We discussed the issues at the meeting and explored potential solutions. Officials have been instructed to tackle the monkey and stray cattle issues, which have become significant problems in the city,” said Anand, while speaking to the mediapersons.

Anand prioritised reviewing the status of CM announcements and asked for detailed progress reports on each project across various wards. He emphasised prioritising long-pending projects and speeding up their completion. He also directed officials to install information boards at completed project sites, listing project costs and local councillor names to ensure public awareness of ongoing development efforts.

Addressing the city’s sewerage problems, Anand instructed the officials to expedite solutions. He emphasised the need for thorough sanitation efforts and directed that any blocked sewage lines be cleared promptly.

He assured that meetings would be held monthly until the election of a new Mayor and councillors. “Since there is no General House currently and until the new Mayor and councillors are elected, I have asked the Commissioner to conduct similar meetings each month. We will review the progress of all projects and address public issues,” Anand added. He mentioned that the next meeting would focus on addressing previous concerns and tracking progress, emphasising the importance of coordination between officials and local government for effective project implementation.

Anand stressed the importance of night sweeping for maintaining city cleanliness. He asked the MC to reintroduce night sweeping through a formal tendering process. Additionally, he suggested increasing the number of sanitation workers for maintaining cleanliness standards effectively.

“The meeting concluded on a positive note. We discussed various aspects of the city’s development, including beautification efforts and park maintenance. The authorities have been instructed to ensure the beautification of the city,” said Anand.

Addressing recent public challenges, Anand said several issues within the Municipal Corporation had come to his notice. “Residents have been facing some difficulties, and after reviewing the situation, I decided to convene a meeting of all relevant officials to devise a plan for steady, uninterrupted progress," he said.

Regarding regularisation of unauthorised colonies, Anand addressed concerns about promises made before the election. “We will examine the reasons why certain colonies have not been regularised as planned,” he said.

On being asked about the upcoming Assembly session, Anand said several newly elected MLAs would be participating for the first time. “I will represent our city’s interests with a thorough understanding of the issues,” he assured.
