Miscreants rob jewellery, cash at gunpoint from Sonepat shop; 1 held
Two miscreants robbed cash and jewellery at gunpoint from a shop on the Gohana road here today. The incident, which occurred near the Sadar police station, was captured in CCTV cameras installed at the shop.
The Sonepat police claimed to have solved the case within two hours with the arrest of one of the accused.
Jitender of Chauhan Colony, in his complaint to the city police, said that he was sitting at his jewellery shop, Unique Jewellers, when around 1.30 pm, two motorcycle-borne youths came and entered the shop. While one of them was wearing a helmet, the other one had covered his face with a handkerchief, he stated.
Both had pistols in their hands and on entering the shop, they allegedly snatched his mobile phone and hit his head with the pistol’s butt.
They then allegedly took 20-gm gold, a diamond set and around Rs 50,000 cash and some other ornaments from his shop.
The injured shopkeeper tried to stop the miscreants and raised an alarm. By this time, some people and other shopkeepers had started gathering near the shop. While one of the accused managed to run away, another one tried to flee on his motorcycle. However, when the shopkeeper attacked him, he left his motorcycle and ran away.
Following the information, the police reached the shop and began a lookout for the accused.
Inspector Tej Ram, along with his team, nabbed one of the accused. Raids were on to nab the other accused.
