Miscreant injured in police firing
A miscreant was injured in a firing by an SHO at Gharaka village falling under the Chohla Sahib police station here on Sunday late evening.
He sustained a bullet injury in the leg while Sub-Inspector Raj Kumar, SHO, Chohla Sahib, had a narrow escape in the incident. The miscreant, identified as Gurjinder Singh, aka Billa, of Khara village, was taken to hospital.
Sharing details, Abhimanyu Rana, SSP, Tarn Taran, said a police party led by Sub-Inspector Vipin Kumar was going from Pakhupura village to Gharaka village when people handed over two criminals Gurjinder Singh Billla and Imandeep Singh Mann of Khara village who had shot at Sukhwinder Singh of Pakhupur village while their third accomplice Jashandeep Singh of Gharka village managed to flee the scene. The police recovered the pistol used in the crime.
He said SI Vipin Kumar called SHO Raj Kumar to the spot. During investigations, they took Gurjinder to the crime scene in the Mand area at Gharaka village where a dispute had occurred between them over the distribution of drugs for consumption.
“As they reached there, Gurjinder Billa pretended to be having a feeling of vomiting. He was brought out of the vehicle to an open space where he took out a pistol stashed in his clothes and started firing at the SHO who escaped narrowly. The SHO fired in self-defence which hit Billa’s leg,” said the SSP.
DSP Atul Soni said Gurjinder had two criminal cases of murder and attempt to murder registered at the Chheharta police station in Amritsar. They had attacked a police team also.
The police confiscated two pistols from their possession. Raids were on to nab Jashandeep Singh, he added.
