Minister Ravjot assures development of Sultanpur Lodhi on Parkash Purb
Attending the 555th birth anniversary celebrations of Guru Nanak Dev in the holy town of Sultanpur Lodhi, Local Bodies Minister Dr Ravjot Singh assured the Sangat of complete development of the place in the days to come.
The minister visited Sultanpur Lodhi in the early hours of the day and attended a green Nagar Kirtan organised there. The Nagar Kirtan started from Gurdwara Gurprakash Sahib on the banks of the holy Bein and after paying obeisance at Gurdwara Ber Sahib, it passed through various localities of the city and ended at Gurdwara Gurprakash Sahib. While walking past the city on foot, Member of Parliament Balbir Singh Seechewal distributed a large number of plants as ‘prasad’.
The Local Bodies Minister said that he would leave no stone unturned for the development of ‘Nanak Nagri’. Seechewal congratulated everyone on Gurpurb and said that Guru Nanak Dev wanted the well-being of all. He said that the concept of goodness of Guru Nanak will have to be adopted to maintain peace in the world.
Seechewal said that Sultanpur Lodhi should be promoted as a centre of tourism. He said that there are many other places, including Sultanpur Lodhi and its surrounding religious places besides Harike wetland, which can be promoted from the tourism point of view. He said that the city can be brought on the world map in the field of tourism. There is potential for tourism development in Sultanpur Lodhi, he pointed out, adding that the development of tourism will create employment opportunities in the area. Gatka feats were performed under the leadership of gatka coach Gurwinder Kaur on the occasion.
The Youth Akali Dal, led by its president Sarbjeet Singh Jhinjher, celebrated Gurpurb by organising ‘Dastaaran Da Langar’ (free turban-tying camps) under its ‘Meri Dastaar, Meri Shaan’ campaign. Jhinjer, who participated in the Dastaar camp at the historic Gurdwara Ber Sahib, Sultanpur Lodhi, said, “It is my good fortune that I could perform this sewa at this pious place of the Guru.”
To mark the significance of 555th Prakash Purab of Guru Nanak, a meaningful pictorial brochure was released depicting the sacred aura of Gurdwara Ber Sahib, Sultanpur Lodhi and the heritage character of Gurdwara Ber Sahib’s palanquin (Palki Sahib), Bhora Sahib, Nishan Sahib, Chaur Sahib, Sukhasan Asthan, domes, sacred sarovar, architectural marvels and the sacred ber tree under which Guru Nanak meditated meticulously, captured through the lens of Punjab’s eminent author, nature artist and heritage promoter, Harpreet Sandhu.
