Cooperative and Tourism Minister Dr Arvind Sharma called upon the youth to stay away from drugs while addressing them at a marathon event organised here on the birth anniversary of farmer leader Ch Chhotu Ram. He said the drugs also destroyed social integrity and religious inclination of humans. The minister participated in the marathon along with the youth. He said that the works done by Ch. Chhotu Ram for the poor, labourers and farmers were unforgettable.

Throwing light on the life of Ch. Chhotu Ram, Sharma said that he was a true well-wisher of the downtrodden, labourers and farmers and also taught them to fight for their rights.

“Born in a simple family, he raised his voice for farmers at every platform. For him, farmers’ welfare was above politics, religion and caste. Expressing concern for farmers, he had once said that people called farmer food providers, but no one bothered whether he himself ate food or not. As much as 75 per cent of the population of our country is dependent on agriculture, if our farmers are advanced and prosperous, then the country will become prosperous and developed,” said the minister.

While interacting with the media on the occasion, Sharma said that Congress’ ideology was nothing but a bundle of lies. “In Maharashtra elections too, the Congress tried to spread lies, but the public rejected it outrightly. It has now been proved that the Congress is wiped out wherever its lie doesn’t work. Now the country is moving towards a Congress-free India,” he said.

In reply to a question, the minister said the Maharashtra election results were the victory of PM Modi’s faith and ‘Sabka Saath and Sabka Vikas’. “Under the leadership of PM Modi, India has got a different identity in the world. It is Modi’s guarantee that the person standing in the last row is getting the benefits of the welfare schemes and the country is persistently heading towards progress,” he added.
