MC’s special clean-up plan for festive season in Sirsa
In preparation for the festive season, the Sirsa Municipal Council has rolled out a special clean-up plan to manage the increased waste generated by shoppers in local markets. As the number of shoppers rises during festivals like Karva Chauth, Dhanteras and Diwali, the council has noticed a significant increase in waste, nearly three times more than usual.
To ensure cleanliness in busy market areas, a special night-time cleaning schedule has been introduced. Sanitation workers will clean the markets and clear garbage at night, while door-to-door waste collection will take place both in the morning and evening. The council has also planned to clear the dumping points near the markets at night to maintain a cleaner environment during the day.
The clean-up plan includes deploying additional vehicles and increasing the number of workers. The city’s sanitation contract has been assigned to private firm, which manages waste collection from households. The Municipal Council supports this effort with its fleet of 35 vehicles and 313 sanitation workers.
Jaiveer Singh, Chief Sanitation Inspector, said, “We’ve designed a special plan to tackle the large amount of waste during the festive season. We aim to keep the city clean and prevent any disruption.” He emphasised that public awareness campaigns would encourage residents and shopkeepers to avoid littering in open areas, urging them to use the designated waste collection vehicles.
The festive season is crucial for local businesses and traders have requested the council to ensure regular cleaning of the market areas, especially during the peak shopping time. A clean market boosts customer footfall and enhances the shopping experience. With the festive season coinciding with a successful harvest, the business community is optimistic about increased sales.
By focusing on cleanliness and efficient waste disposal, the council aims at keeping the markets neat and well organised.
