MC to build two material recovery facilities in Yamunanagar, Jagadhri

The Municipal Corporation of Yamunanagar-Jagadhri (MCYJ) has announced plans to build two Material Recovery Facilities (MRF centres) and four new public toilets in the twin cities of Yamunanagar and Jagadhri. Additionally, the MCYJ would begin street cleaning using a small sweeping machine.

These decisions were made during a meeting of the rent, engineering and sanitation departments of the MCYJ, held under the chairmanship of Municipal Commissioner Ayush Sinha.

"In the meeting, we discussed the purchase of small sweeping machines to clean the narrow streets of colonies, the construction of two MRF centres, four new public toilets and the purchase of 15 new tractor-trolleys," said Sinha.

The meeting also addressed the problem of garbage disposal, with a decision to fine the agency responsible for failing to dispose of waste on time.

During the discussion, Ayush Sinha and officials covered various issues, including the urban ownership scheme, road sweeping, the construction and maintenance of public toilets, the tendering process for tractor-trolley purchases and waste disposal from the Solid Waste Management Plant at Kail village.

The MCYJ plans to build toilets in several locations — Indira Colony in Ward-4, Pansara village and Shadipur village in Ward-12 and Jorio village in Ward-18. The construction would cost approximately Rs 55 lakh. Additionally, 37 existing toilets are set to be repaired, with seven already completed.

Sinha instructed officials to visit all the sites to ensure the timely construction of new toilets. He also recommended replacing brass and steel taps with plastic taps to prevent theft.

Regarding waste management, Sinha said after collecting garbage from homes, it takes considerable time to transport it to the Solid Waste Management Plant using small vehicles. To address this, the MCYJ would establish two permanent MRF centres in Gulab Nagar Colony and Shadipur village. These centres would separate wet and dry waste, with composting pits created for the wet waste.

Furthermore, the MCYJ is trialling a small sweeping machine for cleaning narrow lanes. If successful, additional machines will be procured for both zones of the MCYJ.

Lastly, the meeting concluded with a decision to impose a fine on the agency responsible for delayed waste disposal at the Solid Waste Management Plant.
