MC launches post-festival clean-up in city
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP)-led Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has launched an initiative to restore cleanliness across the city following the Diwali festivities. Mayor Shelly Oberoi held a high-level meeting with key sanitation officials to address the city’s post-festival clean-up needs, strategising resource mobilisation for an immediate and thorough cleaning drive.
“We are committed to ensuring that Delhi remains clean and hygienic, especially after the festive season. I have directed all sanitation officials to prioritise the clearing of vulnerable points throughout the city,” Oberoi stated.
The Mayor highlighted the challenges posed by an insufficient number of sanitation workers during the busy festival period. “It is crucial that we maintain a daily waste lifting schedule in sensitive areas,” she emphasised, urging officials to enhance their efforts in managing the city’s waste.
Specific areas, including Shakurbasti, Tri Nagar, Raja Park and parts of East Delhi, were noted by the Mayor as needing urgent attention. “The sanitation conditions in these areas are disappointing,” she remarked, calling for immediate action.
Additionally, Oberoi ordered special attention to the central verges of PWD roads and the Ring road, which have been particularly affected.
