The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has released its poll manifesto for elections to the Phagwara Municipal Corporation with several commitments to the people.

After releasing the manifesto, former Union Ministers Som Parkash and Vijay Sampla along with district BJP president Ranjit Singh Khojewal and Rajesh Bagha said that after forming the new Municipal Corporation, swift action would be taken by the BJP for the development of Phagwara which would include various projects including filling of vacant posts in the MC, installation of street lights, cleanliness of drains before the monsoon season, sewerage projects, 24x7 availability of clean drinking water; repair of Phagwara-Banga road which connects Shree Vishwakarma Mandir and Gurudwara Sukhchaina Saheb, completion of Phagwara Ring Road project, assured implementation of schemes of Union Government, making permanent employees in MC who were on contract basis, bio-gas project, upgrading of fire brigade, modernisation of bus stand; parking lot under public-private partnership schemes and special efforts to decrease traffic at Sugar Mill Chowk.

Addressing the media, Som Prakash stated that in 2015, the BJP dominated the elections and formed its Municipal Corporation, after which numerous welfare works were undertaken, including parking for 250 cars near the Main Market and sewerage lines in areas which were not connected. He alleged that after the formation of state government in 2017 and 2022 under the leadership of Congress and AAP, development in Phagwara has come to a standstill and people have been suffering. He alleged that under the AAP-led state government, the corruption level in Phagwara has reached its zenith and people have to pay for every government work to get it done.

Som Prakash highlighted that water accumulates on roads and enters the homes of people during the rainy season in Phagwara because of blockage in sewer pipelines and people were not getting clean drinking water due to which they were periodically falling sick.

Meanwhile, addressing the gathering Vijay Sampla highlighted that Phagwara which was once famous for the JCT Textile Mills was now being forced to watch it go to ruins. No efforts were being made by the AAP government in state and its leaders to resolve the matter and make the mill work again. He further highlighted that due to closure of JCT Mills, thousands of workers/labourers have become unemployed.
