Taking another initiative to stop dumping of cow dung into the Buddha Nullah, the Municipal Corporation (MC) has designated certain sites for dumping of the same by dairy unit owners in the Haibowal dairy complex.

Further, the civic body has also tied up with a vermicompost firm, Agricare Organic Farms, in Madarpura village for proper disposal of cow dung. The firm uses it for vermicomposting.

Working under the guidance of MC Commissioner Aaditya Dachalwal, a system has been put in place wherein the dairy owners have been directed to dump cow dung at the designated sites. From there, cow dung is being shifted to the vermicompost plant by civic body teams for its proper disposal.

The dairy unit owners have been directed to dump the cow dung only at the designated sites only and it should not be dumped in the Buddha Nullah or sewer lines of the civic body.

MC teams have been spreading awareness among dairy unit owners and challans are also being issued against violators.

Civic body officials said a biogas plant was already operational in the Haibowal dairy complex wherein cow dung was used to generate biogas. But the plant was not able to consume the entire quantity of cow dung generated in the complex due to capacity constraints. The administration is working to set up another biogas plant in the complex so that the entire quantity of cow dung is consumed in the biogas plants.

For the time being, the new system has been put in place for proper disposal of cow dung at the vermicompost plant.

The MC chief said dumping of cow dung into the Buddha Nullah or sewer lines was a serious matter as it was adding to pollution in the nullah. The state government was also serious about the issue and it was being regularly monitored at the local and state levels. The civic body has facilitated the dairy owners by providing sites for dumping cow dung and it is also being transported to the vermicompost plant by the civic body teams only. The dairy owners should support the administration, otherwise strict action would be taken against the violators.
