Says issue notices, seal buildings

Municipal Corporation Commissioner Kumar Saurabh Raj says the target of house tax and property tax in this financial year is Rs 50 crore, of which only Rs 5.92 crore has been collected so far

He said after the implementation of the one-time settlement scheme to file property tax, the list of all defaulters should be prepared and notices should be issued to them

Each zonal superintendent should seal at least 10 big commercial and industrial properties, whose owners have not yet paid the tax of previous years

The Commissioner said the target of house tax and property tax in this financial year was Rs 50 crore, whereas in this current financial year only Rs 5.92 crore had been collected so far. He said the MC needed to increase its revenue to meet the expenses.

Issuing instructions to the MC staff, the Commissioner stated that every officer and employee of the property tax wing should not take any laxity to meet the target.

He said after the implementation of the one-time settlement (OTS) scheme to file property tax issued by the Punjab Government, the list of all defaulters, who have not yet paid the tax, should be prepared and notices should be issued to them.

Each zonal superintendent should seal at least 10 big commercial and industrial properties in their respective zones, whose owners have not yet paid the tax of previous years.

The process of sealing those properties should be started. The lists of big commercial and industrial establishments in each zone should be prepared in descending order. The MC officials were directed to get details of commercial and industrial buildings built in their respective areas from the Punjab State Power Corporation Limited, Sales Tax Department and Industrial Department.

The Commissioner also instructed to publicise the information of 10% rebate on the property tax if paid by September 30.

He said 10 per cent rebate is available for filing property tax for 2022-23 by September 30. He said the department should take every appropriate step to make the residents of the city aware of it. For this, advertisements should also be displayed in the city, said Kumar Saurabh.
