MC Additional Commissioner inspects fire brigade HQ, takes stock of preparations

With the fire brigade on toes ahead of Diwali celebrations, Municipal Corporation (MC) Additional Commissioner Paramdeep Singh conducted an inspection at fire brigade headquarters near railway station on Wednesday.

The inspection was conducted on the directions of MC Commissioner Aaditya Dachalwal. The aim was to take stock of the preparations and motivate the firefighters who remain busy keeping the city and its residents safe on Diwali night, while the residents are involved in Diwali celebrations.

Temporary fire stations

  • Apart from the six fire stations situated in different parts of the city, the fire tenders would also be stationed at temporary stations which are additionally established in different parts of the city on Diwali night.
  • This is done to reduce reaction time, if any fire incident is reported in the city. The temporary stations would be established at Samrala chowk, Sherpur chowk, Jalandhar bypass, Model town. .

MC Assistant Commissioner Neeraj Jain, Assistant Divisional Fire Officer (ADFO) Maninder Singh, Fire Station Officer (FSO) Kartar Singh, Sub-Fire Officer (SFO) Dinesh Kumar, SFO Rajan Singh, SFO Atish Rai among others were present during the inspection.

Assistant Commissioner Neeraj Jain and ADFO Maninder Singh informed Additional Commissioner Paramdeep Singh that 115 fire fighters will remain on duty on Diwali night and all the preparations have been completed to deal with any fire incident. Fire safety suits and other safety equipment have been provided to the firefighters.

As many as 24 fire tenders, one turntable ladder (56 meter height), one rescue van, two mini-fire tender among other machinery/equipment have been deployed in the fire stations to tackle any fire incident. Generator sets have been deployed at 22 tubewells in different parts of the city for refilling the fire tenders and staff has been deputed as per the requirements.

MC Commissioner Aaditya Dachalwal said that in case, any fire incident is reported in the city, the fire fighters are equipped with modern fire tenders and tool/machinery to deal with the incidents.

Dachalwal further appealed to the residents to not to keep hosiery material, waste clothes, furniture or any other flammable material on the roof of the houses to avoid any fire incident during Diwali. He wished residents a safe and prosperous Diwali.

The administration has also shared various helplines on the occasion. People can call 0161-101, in case of emergency. Besides, residents can also contact the nearest fire station in case of emergency.
