In Chandigarh, Manu Bhaker says want to focus on studies for sometime

The toast of the nation and double Olympic bronze medallist Manu Bhaker and her team mate Sarabjot Singh on Friday arrived in Chandigarh to walk the power corridors of Punjab and Haryana.

The duo, accompanied by their parents, met Punjab and Haryana Chief Ministers Bhagwant Mann and Nayab Singh Saini in the morning and shared their experiences in Paris. They visited the Panjab University, their educational institution, and met with the Vice Chancellor Renu Vig.

Both Manu and Sarabjot are in their second year of Master of Arts in Public Administration at DAV College, Chandigarh.

After meeting Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann, Manu said, “It feels great to be felicitated by the authorities. We shared our experiences. They apprised us of Punjab’s sports policy. Punjab and Haryana joined forces to do well for the country. I hope we continue doing well in the same way in the coming years.”

Mann’s wife Gurpreet Kaur was also there to congratulate the athletes.

The 10m air pistol shooter said she had a discussion with Punjab CM about the progress made by Punjab hockey players in the recent years.

Dressed in India team dress, Manu said she is fortunate to have got support from her family and hopes that families in our society give equal support to boys and girls. I will do my best to make the nation proud ahead.”

On her meeting with Haryana CM Nayab Saini, Manu said, “He offered his congratulations and best wishes as he expressed his vision for the future of Indian sports and the development of sports in Haryana.”

Manu lauded the sports culture of Haryana and congratulated the families for taking their kids to the ground at an early age.

Talking about her future plans, the 22-year-old shooter said now she wants to focus on her studies also.

Haryana CM said three boys from the state contributed in India’s bronze medal finish in hockey.

Professor Renu Vig felicitated Manu Bhaker and Sarabjot Singh. She congratulated them for their success and said that Panjab University is proud that both are students of DAV College affiliated to the university.

Jhajjar girl Manu and Ambala lad Sarabjot Singh defeated South Korea in the 10m air pistol mixed team bronze medal playoff.
