Manesar MC imposes Rs 50L fine on builder for GRAP-IV violation
Taking the lead in cracking down on builders flouting Stage-IV restrictions of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP), the Municipal Corporation of Manesar (MCM) has imposed Rs 50 lakh fine on M3M Builders.
The violation occurred at the builder’s Sector 79 Golf Hills residential project, which spans over 2 lakh sq ft, with apartments reportedly priced at Rs 4 crore each.
The penalty followed complaints from local residents and a viral video, prompting an MCM team to raid the site. According to MCM authorities, construction was found to be in full swing during the inspection, leading to the fine.
MCM Commissioner Renu Sogan has issued a stern warning to all builders, industrialists and residents in the Manesar area to adhere to the GRAP restrictions or face strict action. “We encourage residents to report breaches so that action can be taken,” said Sogan.
In a similar crackdown earlier, the Haryana State Pollution Control Board cut off the power supply to a DLF project in Sector 54 for continuing construction without clearance.
Meanwhile, real estate developers are seeking exemptions for RERA-approved projects, arguing that they already comply with pollution control norms.
Manoj Gaur, president of CREDAI-NCR, said, “Pollution control is essential, and CREDAI supports the CAQM mandate. The real estate sector, as one of the nation’s largest employers of unskilled labour, faces significant financial challenges. Therefore, activities that do not contribute to increased dust levels could be considered by the National Green Tribunal for exemption from the ambit of GRAP.”
Seven builders in Gurugram have been fined by the pollution control board so far for GRAP violations. The total fine slapped till now amounts to Rs 2 crore.
