The Employees Union of the Mandi Municipal Corporation formally submitted a letter to the Public Works Department Minister Vikramaditya Singh recently, detailing their concerns and demands.

The union has called for urgent action on several key issues affecting the workforce. Harish Kumar, union president, said among the primary demands, the union requested the filling of vacant positions through the State Selection Commission to address the shortage of staff in the corporation.

According to the body, the transition from a municipal council to a municipal corporation had significantly increased the area and population, necessitating additional staffing, including senior positions and various technical roles.

“The union has emphasised the lack of residential facilities for employees, despite many hailing from distant areas,” Kumar added.

“Other demands include the formulation of a permanent policy for outsourced employees, as well as the establishment of recruitment and promotion rules for all categories of employees, which are currently lacking due to the state cadre status of the municipal corporation,” he said.

The union also reiterated its call for the implementation of the Old Pension Scheme for urban local body employees, as per the notification dated April 17, 2023.
