Mandi deities open coffers to fight Covid

Deities have opened coffers for the state government to check the spread of Covid-19. It is a rare gesture of deities, who allowed their managing committee, known as Kardar Sangh, to donate money in this difficult time.

The Kardar Sangh, Mandi, has collected Rs 40 lakh from deities and donated it to the state government.

The deities receive a large amount of money from devotees as donations and grants from the government. Shivpal Sharma, president of the Kardar Sangh, said the deities had given their approval to donate the reserved money to the state government.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur was presented cheques for Rs 37,85,951 by Chief Whip Narender Bragta on behalf of the people of Jubbal-Kotkhai in Shimla district towards the ‘HP SDMA Covid-19 State Disaster Response Fund.

The major contributor towards the fund is Rs 25 lakh by the Durga Mata Temple Trust, Hatkoti. Chhavinder Thakur, convener of the Save Manali Kullu Foundation, has donated Rs 21,000.

PhD scholar of IIT Mandi, Mohammad Sultan Alam has spent his scholarship money on providing food material to 30 deprived families in Mandi. — TNS
