Gurjant Singh of Wazidgarh Rohno village, despite having shifted to nearby Jagera village of Ludhiana district, walked 20 kilometres to cast his vote in the panchayat polls at the village for the ‘last’ time. Gurjant was accompanied on his journey by drummers.

He said: “As I have decided to settle in Jagera village, permanently. I will now get my vote deleted from here and register as a voter there and I chose to declare this openly to the beats of drums.” Gurjant is known in the region as ‘Janta Darhi Wala’. He said respecting democracy was more important to him than appeasing politicians.
