Jalandhar: Man, son die of asphyxiation
Jalandhar, January 23
A man and his son died due to asphyxiation, while another person was admitted to a hospital in a critical condition after inhaling smoke from an ‘angithi’ (brazier) kept in their room here.
The deceased have been identified as Ram Bali Mochi (50) and his son Naveen Kumar (24) of Dhakka Colony in Jalandhar Cantonment, while the person admitted to the hospital has been identified as Naveen’s cousin Rajesh Kumar.
The trio, who worked as masons here, did not come out of their room this morning. A neighbour, who came to pick them for work, did not get any response from inside. He somehow managed to get inside the room and found them unconscious. He also found a brazier nearby.
He, along with neighbours, shifted them to the hospital where doctors declared Ram Bali and Naveen dead on arrival. Owing to his serious condition, Rajesh was referred to PIMS Hospital.
Sandeep Rani, SHO of Jalandhar Cantonment police station, said a man and his son died of asphyxiation. A burning angithi was recovered from their room. Proceedings under Section 174 of the CrPC had been initiated. The bodies have been sent to the Civil Hospital for postmortem examination.
