Man held with illicit liquor

Dera Bassi: The police have seized 60 bottles of illicit liquor from Krishan Pal near Saidpur village. The Raipur Rani resident was in possession of liquor meant to be sold in Haryana and Chandigarh only. A case under Sections 61, 1 and 14 of the Excise Act was registered in this regard at the Dera Bassi police station on June 11. TNS

Two arrested under NDPS Act

Chandigarh: The police arrested a Dadu Majra resident, Suraj, alias Golu (22), and recovered 16 grams of heroin from his possession near the slip road, Ziri Mandi Chowk, Sector 39, here on Thursday. A case under Section 21 of the NDPS Act has been registered. In another case, the police arrested a Sector 38 resident, Ajay Kumar (40), and recovered 24 injections of buprenorphine and pheniramine maleate drugs from his possession near the Sector 39/40 light point here on Thursday. A case under Section 22 of the NDPS Act has been registered. TNS

Two nabbed for gambling

Chandigarh: The police arrested a Dhanas resident, Sandeep Kumar, and a Badheri resident, Babu Ram, while gambling at Badheri village here on Thursday. A total of Rs3,500 was recovered from their possession. A case under Sections 13, 3 and 67 of the Gambling Act has been registered at the Sector 39, police station. The suspects were later released on bail. TNS

Theft at house in Sector 28

Chandigarh: Gainda Lal, a resident of Sector 28, reported that an unknown person stole an inverter, a grass-cutting machine and aluminium stairs from his house on the night of June 9. A case under Section 380 of the IPC has been registered. TNS
