A man in Sirsa’s Preet Nagar killed his wife late Tuesday night by hitting her on the head with a rod. The fight started after the wife asked him to stop drinking alcohol which infuriated him.

The victim, 33-year-old Harpreet Kaur, was married to Darshan Singh alias Baljinder Singh for 16 years. The couple, who recently moved to a rented house in Preet Nagar, often fought due to Darshan’s drinking problem.

According to Harpreet’s father, she worked as a house cleaner to support their two children, while her husband was unemployed and addicted to alcohol. On the evening of November 19, Harpreet called her father, saying her husband was threatening to kill her. Her father tried to calm him down over the phone, but tragedy struck later that night.

Darshan attacked Harpreet with a rod during an argument and fled the scene, leaving her bleeding on a cot. Neighbours informed Harpreet’s father who reached the spot.

The police reached the spot, took the body for postmortem and later handed it over to the family. A case was registered against Darshan Singh, and the police are searching for him.
