A newly married woman was allegedly killed by her father-in-law in Pandori Waraich village falling under the Kamboh police station area here yesterday evening.

The deceased was identified as Rajwinder Kaur. She got married to Gora Singh of Pandori Waraich village around 10 months ago. Their was love marriage against the wishes of the boy’s family.

Family members of the deceased said her in-laws strangled her to death following which they informed the police which took the body into custody. The body of the deceased was handed over to her family after an autopsy at the civil hospital here on Sunday.

The police have arrested Amarjit Singh, alias Amba, father-in-law of the deceased and initiated further probe into the incident.

Gurpreet Singh, a relative of the deceased, said Rajwinder and Gora Singh married against the wishes of the latter’s family around 10 months ago. He said around six months ago, Gora went to Dubai for work. He alleged that Rajwinder Kaur’s in-laws used to harass and physically torture her.

He said yesterday, they informed Rajwinder Kaur’s family that she fell in the kitchen and died. However, when family members of the deceased observed strangulation marks around her neck, they immediately informed the police.

The police said Amarjit Singh was arrested today morning. The body of the deceased was handed over to her family after a post-mortem examination today. Further investion was in progress, the police said.
