The police have arrested a migrant on the charge of culpable homicide not amounting to murder. The accused has been identified as Raju, a native of UP, who is presently living in Shamshabad village.

Ram Gopal, a resident of UP and brother of deceased Jugari Devi, complained to the police that his sister’s marriage was solemnised with the accused 18-year ago and both migrated to Punjab in search of work.

The complainant said his brother-in-law is a drunkard and used to torture her sister, adding that on October 11 evening, the accused, in an inebriated condition, assaulted his sister mercilessly, seriously injuring her, who breathed her last in the Jalandhar Civil Hospital on October 12.
