Man duped of Rs 6.50 lakh by 'nephew'
A 45-year-old man from Mukandpur, Nawanshahr, was duped of Rs 6.50 lakh by an unidentified person, who impersonated himself as his nephew. In a complaint registered with cyber crime department, the victim, identified as Ram Suchit, said he got a call from an unknown number some days ago.
"When I answered the call, the man talking on the phone identified as my nephew. He convinced me that he was my nephew and said he was in Doha, Qatar, and was kidnapped by some travel agents. He sounded panicked and also asked me to transfer Rs 6.50 lakh in his account so that he could be saved," the victim said in his statement.
He further added that the man also asked him not to talk about this to anyone. "First, I transferred Rs 1 lakh on his account and then he gave me 2-3 more account numbers and asked me to transfer money in them and I followed him not knowing the fact that I was getting duped," he said.
The case under Section 318 of the BNS Act and 66 of the IT Act has been registered against the accused.
