A man and his son have been booked by the Bhawanigarh police for allegedly duping a resident of Bharaj village of Rs 11 lakh on the pretext of sending him to Australia.

In a complaint to the police, Pawanjit Singh, a resident of Bharaj, stated that a man and his son, both residents of Mohali, allegedly took a sum of Rs 16 lakh from him for sending him to Australia, but failed to honour the commitment. They returned Rs 5 lakh but not the remaining amount. Instead, the two started issuing threats to him, he alleged.

The police have registered a case under Sections 420 and 406 of the IPC and Section 13 of the Punjab Travel Professionals Act.
