A 27-year-old man driving a jeep died while three co-passengers were injured when the vehicle overturned on an uneven stretch where widening of road is being undertaken in Sector 77 here.
Saahil of Haibowal was at the wheel while his fiancee, a friend and a girl were travelling with him. They were returning from a hotel after having dinner.
The victim’s kin said due to poor visibility, Saahil might not have seen the uneven road. “There was no caution signage of an under-construction road, which led to the accident,” they alleged.
The gap between the two surfaces of the road is around one foot. Eyewitnesses said the vehicle flipped several times before coming to a stop.
The victims were taken to a Sohana hospital where doctors declared Saahil dead. The deceased is suvived by his mother and a younger sister.
The road widening work is lingering on in several sectors for months now. Road users complain that there is no signage or safety barricading to prevent road accidents.
