Man ‘assaulted’ for supporting Congress

Accused of taking part in rally

The victim, identified as Sanjay Kumar, a resident of the NIT zone, claimed that he was assaulted by two persons, Naresh and Jaggi, both from the same colony. The attack took place on Tuesday after they accused him of participating in an election rally for the Congress candidate from the area.

Kumar said the accused summoned him to their office through a third party, and as soon as he arrived, they began beating him. When Kumar explained that it was his right to support any candidate and that attending the Congress rally was his personal choice, the accused continued to assault him, causing him to fall unconscious. He managed to escape after a few minutes and reached his home with bruises and injuries.Kumar also claimed that the accused threatened to kill him if he continued to support the particular candidate in the poll.

A police official said after registering the case, an investigation into the matter has been launched.
