Continuing their efforts to instill social values, physical fitness and community living skills in school students, the Malerkotla police have launched a series of events across government and private-aided schools in the region.

The inaugural event of the programme, under the Union Government’s Student Police Cadet (SPC) scheme, was held at Government Senior Secondary School, Akbarpur Chhanna, on the Ludhiana-Malerkotla road. The event was chaired by SP (H) Swaranjit Kaur and supervised by SSP Gagan Ajit Singh.

Surinder Pal Singh Sidhu, the convener of the event and in charge of District Sanjh Kendra Malerkotla, said indoor and outdoor activities have been organised for students of the designated schools as part of the two-year SPC program.

Speakers at the event, including SP (H) Swaranjit Kaur, Cyber Cell Educator Parminder Singh and the principal, Kiran Bala, highlighted various aspects of the scheme, which is being run in Punjab under the management of the Special Director General of Police (Community Affairs Division).

SP (H) Swaranjit Kaur expressed satisfaction with the response from residents and their children, noting several teachers and parents approached her for further guidance at the conclusion of the event. “The response has been encouraging and many have shown keen interest in ensuring their children benefit from the programme,” Kaur said.

She also outlined future plans to expand the programme, including organising visits for students to police stations, cyber cells, forensic science laboratories, traffic cells and other administrative offices. “We have developed a comprehensive plan to hold workshops and seminars in schools to sensitise students about the importance of education and knowledge for their future,” Kaur added.

The programme would also offer opportunities for internships with the police, road safety training, drug abuse awareness, unarmed combat training, participation in parades and lessons on traffic rules and career-oriented education. These initiatives are aimed at preparing students for responsible citizenship and future career opportunities.
