The Delhi Police arrested Harsh, alias Chintu, the main shooter in the double murder case at a salon in Najafgarh earlier this year, police officials said on Thursday. Harsh, a 22-year-old accused, had fled abroad on a fake passport after the crime and carried a reward of Rs 50,000 on his head.

On February 9, Sonu Tehlan and Ashish Tehlan were shot dead at point-blank range following a heated argument at the ‘Scissor Dot Comb Salon’ in Indra Park, Najafgarh. A case was registered against Harsh and his accomplice, Sanjeev Kumar, alias Sanju Dahiya, at the Najafgarh police station. Both were declared proclaimed offenders, and the investigation was transferred to the crime branch.

Additional Commissioner of Police (Crime) Sanjay Bhatia said Harsh used a fake passport under the name of Pradeep Kumar, allegedly arranged in Punjab, to flee India via the Amritsar airport to Sharjah on June 9. He later travelled to Baku, Azerbaijan, in August. Based on this information, the police issued a Look-Out Circular (LOC).

Harsh was detained on November 28 at the Indira Gandhi International Airport upon his arrival using the fake passport.

Police officials revealed that Harsh is an associate of gangster Yogesh, alias Tunda, who now leads the Gogi Gang after the former leader’s death. Harsh had been previously involved in three extortion cases and allegedly extorted money from several Delhi businessmen using the names of Yogesh and Monty Maan, another gang member.

“Harsh had deep connections within the criminal network,” said a police official. After the murders, he was shielded by gang members and moved across various locations in India, including Shimla, Jammu, Surat and Jodhpur, before fleeing abroad,” the police said.

Officials said the murder in Najafgarh was a result of long-standing enmity between the accused and the victims. “On the day of the incident, Harsh and Sanjeev had a confrontation with the victims, Ashish and Sonu, at the salon. The accused left briefly but returned to execute the attack, killing both victims on the spot,” an officer said.
