Mahit wins 50m rifle prone gold in Deaf Worlds
New Delhi: India’s Mahit Sandhu clinched the gold medal in the women’s 50m rifle prone event while Abhinav Deshwal secured silver in the men’s 25m pistol on the fifth day of the second World Deaf Shooting Championship at Hanover, Germany. With these two medals, India increased their tally to 15, including four gold, seven silver and four bronze. This was Sandhu’s second gold and overall third medal at the Deaf Shooting Worlds.

Crasto-Kapila in Taipei Open mixed doubles quarterfinals
India’s mixed doubles pair of Tanisha Crasto and Dhruv Kapila marched into the quarterfinals of the Taipei Open but the country’s men’s singles competitors endured second-round losses. Crasto and Kapila took only 33 minutes to brush aside the challenge from Chinese Taipei’s Ko-Chi Chang and Yen Yu Lin 21-13 22-20. In men’s singles, Sathish Kumar Karunakaran and Sankar Subramanian lost.

Australia’s Head puts Scots to sword in powerplay record
Australia opener Travis Head set a powerplay record with the bat as he blasted a 25-ball 80 in a T20 International as the visitors delivered a chastening seven-wicket win over Scotland. Head raced to 73 in the powerplay, outstripping Irishman Paul Stirling’s men’s T20 record of 67 against West Indies in 2020, as Australia chased down 155 in less than 10 overs. Head’s 16 boundaries in the powerplay was also a record, while he equalled Marcus Stoinis’s Australian record for the fastest fifty in T20Is in 17 balls.

World Cup winner Morgan announces retirement
Alex Morgan, a two-time World Cup winner and one of the greatest goal scorers in US women’s national team history, announced her retirement from professional football. Morgan, who also revealed that she is pregnant with her second child, will play her final professional match on Sunday when her San Diego Wave of the National Women’s Soccer League host the North Carolina Courage.
