Youth killed in road accident
Amritsar: A man, identified as Harpreet Singh of Patti in Tarn Taran, was killed in a road mishap that took place on BRTS lane here on Friday. He used to work as a private bus driver. He was sitting on the roof of the bus when he was hit by the BRTS bus station’s roof near The Mall of Amritsar and was killed on the spot. The driver and conductor sped away from the spot. The police have registered a case and launched further investigations. Manpreet Singh, a resident of Patti, told the police that the victim was his younger brother. The police have registered a case under Sections 304-A and 34 of the IPC against the unidentified driver and conductor of the private bus. TNS
Central Jail inmate attempts suicide
Amritsar: A prisoner attempted suicide by hanging himself with a tree on the Central Jail complex here on Friday. He was identified as Parampal Singh of Butt village falling under Chattiwind police here. According to the police, he was lodged in jail in an NDPS-related case. On Friday, he used his head gear to hang himself with the tree. But the jail staff saw him and brought him down. Following this, a case under Section 309 of the IPC and Section 542 of the Prisons Act was registered against him. TNS
Car lifters’ gang busted, 1 arrested
Tarn Taran: Kacha Pakka police busted a five-member gang of vehicle lifters from the T-point at Kulla village here on Friday. One of the gang members had been arrested and on his interrogation the police seized six stolen motorcycles. Sub-Inspector Mukhwinder Singh, SHO, said the gang members used to lift vehicles from the busy areas and sell these to innocent persons. The SHO said the arrested gang member had been identified as Jagjit Singh of Lauhuka village and on the information given by him six bikes were seized from different places. The other absconding gang members were identified as Akash of Lauhuka, Gurlal Singh of Mehindipur, Sajan and his brother Rajan of Patti town.
