Women have been given 50 per cent reservation in the MC elections and they are actively campaigning and putting forward their agenda.

Shiromani Akali Dal’s Dr Sukhleen Kaur Grewal, who is contesting elections from Ward No. 55, said there are many issues that need immediate attention and first being the vehicle parking.

“More parking space should be made available to the people and encroachments should be removed. In addition to this, the parking lots also need proper management,” said Grewal.

Aam Aadmi Party’s candidate Amrit Varsha Rampal from the same ward said all these days she had been meeting people and listening to their issues and problems.

“Some issues like garbage and roads were highlighted by the residents and they will be taken up once the house is formed. The AAP also promises to launch a fleet of electric buses to improve the city’s public transportation system and make Ludhiana’s transport system both sustainable and eco-friendly.

Mala Dhanda, from Ward No 69, from Bhartiya Janata Party, said as there was no MC house from the past 1.5 years, many issues need to be taken care of.

Garbage, parking, water supply, sewerage etc. all the basic amenities need to be provided to the people and we will work towards this goal.

Dhanda, further said that it is very disheartening to see that many times women councillors are dummy councillors and it is their husbands who do all the work. “The government has made reservation and women should use this platform and work whole heartedly towards achieving their goals and make their city a better place to live. Women should themselves come in the field rather than using their husband as a shield,” said Dhanda.

Neelam Mehmi, Congress candidate from Ward No. 1, said one of the major issues that need to be addressed is public transport system.

“The public transport system in Ludhiana is not efficient and sufficient. Special transportation facility for women should be started,” she said.
