Woman succumbs to Covid, 28 more positive in Ludhiana

Today one lost his life and 28 more tested positive for Covid in the district. The person who lost his life was a 53-year-old woman from Kartar Nagar. She had diabetes and hypertension and difficulty in breathing. She was admitted to the Dayanand Medical College and Hospital where she breathed her last. With this, the death toll in the district has reached 49.

Those who tested positive today include two doctors, one each from the DMCH and the CMCH, and four paramedical and nursing staff of the CMCH and Oswal Hospital.

Punjab Agricultural University has been closed down till July 24 after a senior assistant at the university tested positive for Covid. A scientist from Abohar, who is associated with the university, has also tested positive. All those who met the scientist recently have been told to quarantine themselves. Since July 25 and 26 (Saturday and Sunday) are off in the university, now, the decision on whether the university will be opened on July 27 or not is yet to be taken. The online studies and essential field activities will be continued as usual.

Two pre-operative patients have also tested positive today which include a 65-year-old woman from Sohi Street, Government College Road, and a 51-year-old female from Jassowal, Samrala.

Today 16 persons with influenza-like Illness have also tested positive for Covid. The areas from where people tested positive today include Dhandari Kalan, Guru Arjun Dev Nagar, Gurdev Nagar, Maharaja Ranjit Singh park, Himmat Singh Nagar, Mohan Nagar, Jassowal, New Shivaji Nagar, Guru Har Rai Nagar, Sector 32-A (Chandigarh Road), Focal Point, Moti Nagar, BRS Ngar, Model Town Extension, Kartar Nagar, Purana Bazaar, Jassian Road, Aman Nagar and Dashmesh Nagar.

Meanwhile, under the awareness campaign about Covid-19, the Mass Media teams of Civil Surgeon Office today held awareness seminars in slums of Ludhiana. Teams visited slums of Jamalpur, Metro road, Sanjay Gandhi Colony.

Civil Surgeon Rajesh Kumar Bagga said as everyone knows that awareness was necessary for staying safe from coronavirus and it becomes pivotal when it comes to slums. He said mostly people in slums are not literate and aware, so their lack of information could become dangerous for themselves and for other people of the city. Hence, to make sure that whole city stays safe and away from coronavirus, the mass media teams are spreading awareness and also distributing pamphlets and posters.

Dr Bagga said cases were increasing and awareness would definitely lower down the number and prove to be fruitful for the department and society.

Teams are also visiting containament, micro containment, slums and rural areas of the district. They are also motivating people in areas where number of people coming forward for sampling is low.
