Woman, paramour kill husband, arrested

Victim murdered for objecting to illicit relationship

A woman along with her paramour and family members killed her husband with a sharp weapon on Thursday at Gill village. The suspects threw the husband’s body in a vacant plot on the Malerkotla road. A passer-by saw the body and raised the alarm. Officials from the Sadar police station reached the scene and shifted the body to the Civil Hospital late on Thursday night.

The suspects have been identified as deceased’s wife Punita Mishra, her paramour Rajan Shukla and her sisters Dolly Mishra and Gayatri Mishra and Varinder Kumar.

Initial investigation revealed that the deceased, 35-year-old Pawan Kumar, was a driver by profession. He hails from Udaipur village in Balrampur district of UP. He was staying in a rented house on Gill Road here. The police took the deceased’s wife into custody after examining a CCTV footage of the crime scene. They are also questioning neighbours of the victim.

During investigation, it was revealed that the deceased’s wife, Punita Mishra, was having an illicit relationship with Rajan and her husband had been objecting to the affair. As a result, his wife, along with her family members and paramour, decided to kill him with a sharp weapon.

After committing the murder, the suspects dumped the body of the deceased in a vacant plot and fled the scene. ASI Tarsem Singh said all five suspects were arrested by the police.
