Woman ends life, 12 booked on dowry charge
After a woman died by suicide by consuming some medicine at her parents’ house in Rania village and died on Monday night, the Dehlon police on Tuesday registered a case against 12 persons, including the deceased’s husband and mother-in-law, on the charges of dowry death.
The deceased has been identified as Shifali Sharma. The suspects have been identified as deceased’s husband Tajinderbir Singh, her mother-in-law Rajbir Kaur, Sharuti, Sharuti’s brother Harshvardhan, Sharuti’s mother Shaweta, Tajinderbir’s brother Maninderbir Singh and his wife Sharanjit Kaur, Kaku, Mani, Amrik, Babri and Babal.
Prem Lata, the deceased’s mother, said after her daughter got married to Tajinderbir last year, her husband and in-laws started torturing her for dowry. On December 8, due to the torture, her daughter had consumed some medicines due to which she was undergoing treatment at the DMCH, where she breathed her last on Monday night.
Satnam Singh Dhaliwal, president, Universal Human Rights Organisation, who helped the family in registration of the FIR, demanded immediate arrest of the suspects.
