Veteran women athletes hog limelight at state-level games
Veteran athletes stole limelight, showcasing remarkable fitness and skill when Bakshish Kaur of Faridkot (61-70 years) and Bharpur Kaur of Rup Nagar (51-60 years) clinched the top positions in 400m race on the penultimate day of the third edition of State-Level Khedan Watan Punjab Diyan being organised by the Punjab Sports Department in association with the district administration here on Friday.
At Guru Nanak Stadium, in the 61-70 years section, Sajni of Patiala and Sunita Sharma of Ferozepur finished at the second third place while in the 51-60 years category, Leela Rani of Patiala and Jagjeet Kaur of Sangrur finished as the first and second runners-up.
In the plus 70 years group, Raj Bajwa of Mohali annexed the top position in the javelin throw event while Nirmala Devi of Patiala finished second and Santosh Kumari, also of Patiala won the third position.
In the women’s (21-30 years) in 10,000m race, Baljeet Kaur of Mansa, Kulwinder Kaur of Amitsar and Kajal of Kapurthala secured the top three positions while in 5,000m race, Raveena Rani of Patiala emerged the winner and was followed by Veerpal Kaur of Faridkot and Muskan of Patiala at the second and third place, respectively.
In kickboxing, at the multipurpose indoor hall, in below 32kg weight section of light contact event for girls U-14, the first three positions were bagged by Harsharan Kaur of Ferozepur, Simran Kaur of Mansa and Gurmenat Kaur of Hoshairpur. In the girls’ U-17 section, in the same event and weight group, Dolly of Nawanshahr clinched the top honours while Heena of Amritsar secured the second position. The third position was shared by Kamaljeet Kaur of Bathinda and Veerdeep Kaur of Muktsar.
At Government Girls Senior Secondary School ground, Gill village, in baseball, Ludhiana emerged champions in all the three age groups. In the girls U-14 section, Ludhiana, Sangrur and Moga secured top three spots. — OC
