Tributes paid to Kartar Singh Sarabha
Office-bearers and activists of various social, educational and constitutional organisations paid homage to Kartar Singh Sarabha during the concluding sessions of a series of events held here on the occasion of his martyrdom day and the National Press Day.
Besides recollecting his sacrifice as one of the youngest martyrdom during the freedom struggle, the enthusiasts vowed to follow ethics and elements of journalism, the foundation of which was laid by Sarabha as the founder editor of the Hindustan Ghadar newspaper of his party.
The Chairman of the Muskan Group of Industries, social activists Sanjiv Bhalla and Dr Ramesh Mansuran chaired various sessions during which speakers highlighted sacrifices made by Sarabha and issues pertaining to the freedom of press.
Speakers regretted that the elements of patriotism, revolution, accountability and meticulousness, followed by Sarabha in journalism had been eclipsed by anti-national forces leading to instability and chaos in the modern society.
Convener of a project, Ram Gopal Raikoti informed that a free eye check-up camp was also organised in association with Sukhdev Singh Jawanda Memorial Trust on the occasion. As many as 40 patients were identified for implantation of intraocular lenses after examining 250 patients. While free medicines and clinical tests were provided for all patients, surgeries for implantation of lenses would be conducted over the coming days.
