Tributes paid to Kargil martyrs on 25th Vijay Diwas anniversary

Tributes were paid to the Kargil martyrs to mark the 25th anniversary of Kargil Vijay Diwas at separate functions held here today.
Deputy Commissioner Sakshi Sawhney laid a wreath in memory of the martyrs at Maharaja Ranjit Singh War Museum. Sakshi recalled the exemplary courage of the brave soldiers who safeguarded the country’s borders despite the extremely tough conditions.
She also emphasised that every countryman would remain indebted to these martyrs for their supreme sacrifice. Later, the Deputy Commissioner also visited various galleries in the museum.
At another function organised by the Directorate Defence Services Welfare, Punjab, Rajya Sabha MP Sanjeev Arora remembered the Kargil martyrs. Arora stressed on the need to further popularise Maharaja Ranjit Singh War Museum here. He said the museum is a place to learn about the history of martyrs and the wars that occurred after Independence. He said the museum contains rich information about the pre-Independence times.
For further upgrading of the museum, he released a grant of Rs 10 lakh from his MPLAD fund. He also honoured the families of brave soldiers who had laid down their lives for the nation in Kargil operation. He also released a brochure dedicated to the occasion and a documentary on Maharaja Ranjit Singh War Museum. Col. SS Saini, District Defence Services Welfare Officer, was also present.
