In the kidnapping case of a Gujarat-based trader, Surjit Dinkar Patel, from the Janakpuri market here, the Ludhiana police have registered a case against the business partner of the victim. The suspect has been identified as Rajinder Bai, also a native of Gujarat.

Notably, on Thursday night, the trader was kidnapped from Ahluwalia Complex, Janakpuri market, by around five persons. They had bundled the victim into a i20 car, bearing a Ludhiana registration number, and fled the scene. The police were on their toes after getting information about the incident. Later, senior police officials reached the scene.

Police officials said based on the statement of Jagdeep, accountant of the victim, who witnessed the kidnapping, the police on Friday registered a case against the business partner of the victim. The victim and his partner had some dispute related to the business and it seemed to have become the cause of kidnapping. So far, one person (victim’s partner) was identified and the others, who were accompanying the key suspect, were yet to be identified.

“After kidnapping the victim, the suspects went towards the Delhi road and it is quite possible that they might have taken victim to some other state, including Guajrat. Police teams have been formed to trace the victim. Teams are even conducting raids in other states but the victim was not traced so far,” a police official said.

The official said kidnappers had used a fake registration number to befool the police. The police had got a CCTV footage of the car going towards the Delhi road and other clues in the case. The case would be cracked soon.
