Three of robbers' gang land in police net
The Machhiwara police busted a gang of robbers, headed by a transgender. It had carried out a robbery at gunpoint in a house in Rupnagar district on Sunday. Three members of the gang were arrested.
As per information, of the three suspects, two had stolen a revolver, cartridges and jewellery from a house in Machhiwara. Then the gang used the arms to commit a robbery in Rupnagar district.
The trio were identified as transgender Renu Mahant of Bahlolpur village, Nirmal Singh Gopi and Jagdeep Singh of Indira Colony in Machhiwara.
Samrala DSP Tarlochan Singh said on August 21, a theft incident was reported in the house of Manmohan Sharma at Guru Nanak Mohalla in Machhiwara and thieves had stolen a revolver, five cartridges and jewellery from the place.
The DSP said on Sunday, Renu along with Nirmal and Jagdeep barged into a house in Chamkaur Sahib and looted gold earrings from the woman at gunpoint. Acting on a tip-off, the Machhiwara police arrested the three suspects. The police also recovered the stolen revolver, cartridges and looted jewellery from them. Now, remand of the suspects would be sought to ascertain their involvement in past loot incidents.
