Three farmers try to enter hospital to meet Dallewal, detained for 3 hours

A few farmers who reached the Dayanand Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) to meet farm leader Jagjit Singh Dallewal were not allowed to meet him in the first place. He is admitted to the hospital since Tuesday and a huge police force has been deployed in and around the institute to maintain law and order.

Three farmers who were entering the hospital area leading to emergency ward were stopped by police personnel on duty. The trio started arguing with the officials and tried to enter the hospital. Later, they started a protest and raised slogans against the government, which caused inconvenience to patients going towards the emergency ward.

To keep the situation under control, the police detained the three farmers as they were adamant on meeting Dallewal. The trio, Sukhdev Singh, Gurjit Singh and Tarlok Singh, were detained by the police from 12-3 pm and after 3 pm, they were taken to the hospital and allowed to meet Dallewal in the presence of senior police officials.

The farmer leader, who was planning to begin fast-unto-death, was allegedly removed from the Khanauri border and brought to the DMCH for check-up on Tuesday.

Sukhdev Singh Bhojraj, president of the Kisan and Jawan Bhalai Union, Punjab, and also the member of the Sanyukt Kisan Morcha, who came to meet Dallewal, said he along with two other members came to enquire about the health of Dallewal on Thursday.

“Firstly, the police detained us from 12-3 pm and later, took us to the hospital for meeting him. We met him in the presence of senior police officials. He is keeping good health and we fail to understand why the police brought him to the DMCH. Why he is not being allowed to meet anyone and not given his mobile phone. He is continuing with his fast-unto-death from the hospital,” he said.

According to the sources in the hospital, Dallewal is keeping good health and fasting. His health parameters are normal and that is the reason that no file has been made in his name and no doctor is attending him. He is inside the hospital, away from public eyes and is continuing with his fast.

The sources added that he was suffering from cancer but had quit his medication after going on fast.

Meanwhile, patients visiting the DMCH were taken aback after witnessing huge police force at the hospital. “People should not disturb the peaceful environment at the hospital,” said a patient at the hospital.
