Ludhiana, July 11

Jaswinder Singh, alias Sunny, a resident of Chuharpur Peeran Wali Gali, Haibowal, who was involved in the attack on Shiv Sena leader Sandeep Thapar, was arrested by the police.

The police said four suspects namely Sarabjit Singh, alias Sabha, from Ludhiana, Harjot Singh, alias Jota, Sucha Singh, alias Ladi, from Amritsar and Jaswinder Singh carried out the crime. As per their plan, the fourth suspect, Jaswinder, was not present at the scene of crime. When the attack was carried out, according to the plan made by the four suspects, Sarabjit and Harjot escaped the scene on the victim’s scooter and Jaswinder helped the third accomplice Sucha to escape from the crime scene. Jaswinder was nominated in the FIR on July 10 and the offence of criminal conspiracy under Section 61(2) of the BNS was added to the case and on the same day, he was arrested. He was presented before the Ludhiana trial court today and the police have been granted two-day remand of the suspect. Further investigation is going on.

Sarabjit and Harjot were already arrested by the police in the case. Weapons used in the crime and mobile phones of the suspects were seized. From the questioning of the suspects, a person, named as Ladi, was identified as Sucha Singh, a resident of Khanpur village in Amritsar district. that besides the three suspects, their fourth accomplice, Jaswinder, was also involved in the case.

Shiv Sena leaders hold meeting in city

Meanwhile, Shiv Sena leaders held a meeting under the leadership of Rajiv Tandon here today. Leaders from across the state discussed the next course of action. Tandon said a jago march would be organised in major districts of the state. It would start from July 18 from Amritsar, and cover Jalandhar and Patiala district.

Tandon said Hindus were treated badly in the state and old terrorism days were being revived. Hence, there was a need to make Hindus aware to be united in these testing times.
