The Ludhiana police on Sunday made the third arrest in the murderous attack on a shoe trader, Gurvinder Singh, alias Prinkle.

The suspect was identified as Akash Kumar, a resident of Karamsar Colony. The police also recovered one .30 bore pistol and four cartridges from him.

Meanwhile, the ongoing probe of the Ludhiana police found that a gangster, Karan Walia, a close aide of gangster Rishab Benipal, alias Nannu, would be brought on production warrant from the Nabha jail.

Karan had allegedly connived with gangster Rishab to carry out the attack on Prinkle. Police sources said so far the police were having suspicion that Karan might be part of the murderous attack conspiracy and his role in arranging weapon or shooters to carry out the attack would be probed. Gangster Rishab and his aide Sushil, who also got bullet injuries, are undergoing treatment at a hospital. Once they were discharged, they would be questioned about the role of jailed gangster Karan.

Sources said the police were also verifying about the stay of the shooters in a hotel on Brown Road near the trader’s shop. They allegedly checked out from the hotel sometime before targeting the victim.

Meanwhile, ACP (Central) Anil Bhanot while addressing a press conference on Sunday said since police teams were conducting raids at suspected whereabouts of the miscreants, after getting a tip-off, they nabbed Akash. Further raids were on to nab the other suspects.

On Saturday, the Ludhiana police arrested gangster Rishab Benipal

and Sushil Kumar in the attack case. Both suspects had also suffered bullet injuries as Prinkle had also fired shots in self-defence.

On Friday, the armed assailants had barged into the shop where they shot at Prinkle and his business partner Navjit Kaur. Prinkle had suffered seven bullet injuries of which two hit near his chest. While Navjit Kaur suffered two bullet injuries. Rishab suffered three bullet injuries, including two in stomach, while Sushil suffered three bullet injuries.
