Ludhiana, August 9

Beating students cost dear to a teacher of Government Primary School, Jamalpur Awana.

DEO (Elementary) Ravinder Kaur, said a teacher, Kamaljit Kaur, who had allegedly thrashed Class V students, had been suspended for her behaviour and actions.

The DEO said strict action was taken against the teacher due to her highly irresponsible behaviour. “We had visited the school following complaints by parents and met everyone, students and staff. At 8:30 am, I got to know about the incident and reached the school. Around 12 students were beaten by the teacher,” she said.

Meanwhile, the teacher, Kamaljit Kaur, said she was teaching a lesson during which there was a word, which had double meaning. Students started repeating the word and tried to misbehave with her, following which she tried to stop them and beat the pupils. She also alleged that entire staff was against her and they had deliberately called parents and provoked them against her.

The incident occurred yesterday when the entire class was beaten up by the class teacher.

The parents gathered outside the school today, blocking the road to get justice. The police had to be called to persuade the parents. The parents said the children were brutally thrashed by the teacher and when parents tried to register a complaint today, she manhandled and misbehaved with them. One of the parents said the teacher had broken her mobile. She said she even threatened to “cut” the children, if they dared to tell anything about the incident to their parents.

A student of Class V said when two students were doing mischief, the teacher came from the rear and started beating them. The teacher got out of control and beat all pupils badly with a stick.— TNS
